I thought I’d do a different kind of article as many of you asked me about my recent closed shop and everything. Well, it’s a delicate subject, but I still would like to clarify a few things. I think I owe you that much, right? 🙂
So, as you all know I had a little shop of Romanian products and I invested a lot in it, the two most important being time and money. I had it all done: the furniture, finding the location, made my own logo, did my flyers and business cards ( btw, I know that this company has the best business cards ever: http://www.moo.com/ ), choosing the products, buying everything needed, etc.
I worked with my family which was a plus, but sometimes a downfall cause at the end of the day, maybe someone wanted things done differently and so arguments started to arise.
We barely had time for anything and the fact that we were working just to pay taxes, rent, utility bills, accountants, etc., was really not what we had in mind. I was also working like crazy my other jobs and I started to get ill and all the time tired, stressed… it was really not what I’ve envisioned.
So, after a year, when the due date came for the rent lease, we decided to close and it was by far the best decision that we could have made.
The Belgian state doesn’t care less for people like us. They just care to take the most of immigrants that they could possibly have so we have someone to blame when all the economy starts falling down. And it has already started. Belgium and all the other European states are heading towards downfall… People who work are the ones that are paying the most taxes and don’t have any right. The ones who are in social help don’t give a damn and in a way, they’re right cause if any of you were in their place, you’d do the same.
So, all in all, I made the best decision possible. Now I have more time for myself, for my blog, for my travels… I’m happy to have had the experience of owning something and saw the real face of it.
I’m not, in any way, discouraging you to have a business of your own, but it’s better to think it through when rolling into something like this.
